Chamber to Host 9th U.S. Congressional District Candidates September 19 The Greater Greenwood Chamber will host contenders for the 9th U.S. Congressional District at a luncheon featuring a candidate forum and question-and-answer session with the audience. The event, the fourth and final installment of the 2016 Legislation Matters series, is scheduled for Monday, September 19, at Valle Vista Golf Club & Conference Center. It is open to Chamber members and to the public. The candidates are: Trey Hollingsworth (R) and Shelli Yoder (D). Trey Hollingsworth Shelli Yoder Hollingsworth, a businessman who lives in Jeffersonville, is founder of Hollingsworth Capital Partners and a partner in Aluminum Remanufacturing Operation. Yoder, an Indiana University educator and member of the Monroe County Council, lives in Bloomington and is waging her second campaign for this congressional seat. Both are vying for the seat previously held by Todd Young (R), who is now running for the U.S. Senate. “Greenwood is at the top of the ninth congressional district and so one of these two candidates will represent our businesses in Washington,” said Chamber President and CEO Christian Maslowski. He added that the Chamber’s Business Advocacy Council has identified these national topics as most important to our business community and that candidates will be asked to address them: 1. Completion of and funding of I-69 section 6 2. Federal infrastructure – roads, highways and bridges – funding; formula, source, distribution, etc. 3. Minimum wage 4. Affordable Health Care Act, particularly reporting requirements and fines to employers You may recall that the Chamber provided the public an opportunity to meet primary election candidates for the seat during an evening reception — dubbed the “Top of the Ninth” — on March 10. “The goal of our legislative forums is to put members — and our top business policy issues — in front of our elected officials,” said Maslowski. “The Legislation Matters series is designed to be a relaxed, informal environment where members can learn about legislators' key issues, ask questions and discuss any issues that are important to you and your business.” “As voters and tax payers, your vote matters. Our moderator will ask the panel your questions that you have written on index cards. You will ‘vote’ on key issues by holding up either red or green paper,” he added. Be sure to register while seating is still available. Individual registration is $20 per person and can be made online by Friday, September 16, at 5 p.m. Registration at the door might be available for a higher cost, if seats are still available.
