Local Chef and Bartender Win Live Competitions During the 25th Annual Taste of the Southside

LOCAL CHEF AND BARTENDER WIN LIVE COMPETITIONS DURING THE 25TH ANNUAL TASTE OF THE SOUTHSIDE



Attendees of the 25th Annual Taste of the Southside, presented by Meijer, witnessed some of the best local chefs and bartenders battle during live competitions. Three chefs and three mixologists participated in the respective events and presented their finished creations to a panel of judges during the Taste of the Southside, presented by Meijer, supported by DiscountFilters.com, First Merchants Bank and Sam’s Club and organized by the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.

Chefs had 30 minutes to create six dishes using a basket of mystery ingredients including – ahi tuna, butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, Granny Smith apples, maple syrup and dry-smoked chipotle peppers. Chef Michael Leak from Stone Creek Dining Company won the coveted title of Master Chef for a third year in a row.  Also participating were Chef Kelly Milligan of Chef Suzanne Catering and Chef Nick Workman of Tried & True Alehouse.

The Mixology Competition returned for a third year as bartenders competed for the title of Master Mixologist and were challenged to use one of the mystery ingredients – dry-smoked chipotle peppers. Mike Williams, Big Woods Franklin won the sought-after title of Master Mixologist.  Also participating were Carlos Fiero of Hops & Fire Craft Tap House and Stacy Olthoff from Stone Creek Dining Company.

Guests also voted for their favorite food and beverage.  Voter favorites (based on majority vote) were:  

Overall Best-tasting Beverage: Sun King Brewery
Overall Best-tasting Appetizer/Soup/Salad: A 3-Way Tie of Stacked Pickle - Greenwood, Stone Creek Dining Company – Greenwood, and Tried & True Alehouse
Overall Best-tasting Entree: City Barbeque
Overall Best-tasting Dessert: A Piece of Cake/Slice of Pie
Overall Best Display and Booth Decor: Ella's Frozen Yogurt & Candy Shop

The Chamber would like to recognize the more than 40 volunteers who made the Taste a smooth, enjoyable success, especially leaders Keri Brantley, Andy Bowen, Teresa Harwood, Sean McAuliffe, and David Payne.  The Chamber also thanks all the wonderful sponsors and vendors that generously made the event come alive, especially Evans Audio Visual and Wow Factors, Primo Banquet and Conference Center, and The Marketing Department.
