The Franciscan Health Foundation of Northern Indiana thanks CAPTRUST for its recent donations totaling $4,166 in support of the Franciscan Health Michigan City Prenatal Assistance Program for vulnerable mothers with children under the age of one. “One of CAPTRUST’s core values is community and with that is our responsibility to share our time, money and energy within the communities in which we work,” said Kelly Shikany, vice president and financial advisor for CAPTRUST Chesterton. “By partnering with the Franciscan Health Foundation and supporting the Michigan City Prenatal Assistance Program, we are able to enrich the lives of local newborns who need our support.” Since 2020, CAPTRUST’s financial contributions have also benefitted Franciscan Health Michigan City’s Center of Hope sexual assault survivors program and the backpack program, which provides backpacks full of school supplies to local children living in shelters. “We are so grateful for Kelly’s passion for our community programs and for the generous support from CAPTRUST over the years,” Franciscan Health Foundation of Northern Indiana Director of Development Debbie Tatum said. “They truly embody what it means to give back and bless others.” Contributions to the Franciscan Health Foundation to support these and other programs can be made online. Gordon Grindstaff is not one to ask for help, but he knew he could not face the challenge of being the lone caregiver for his wife, Carole. For the Indianapolis-area couple, who have been married for nearly 60 years, Franciscan Health’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) has been a game changer. Carole has vascular dementia and had a stroke several years ago. She attends the PACE Day Center five days a week for four hours each day. “The fact that she has some personal attention paid to her every day is wonderful,” Gordon said. “They look after her health a lot more closely than her general practice doctor can, because they see her every day. Also, the clinic is right there if something needs to be looked at. “Carole has four hours a day that are filled with interactions with others and activities, which is great,” Gordon added. “That relieves me of some stress and provides her with professional care and help.” Gordon, who takes part in an outside support group once a month, is quick to sing the praises of the PACE program and encourages anyone in a similar situation to look into it. Patients in Lafayette now have the opportunity for earlier lung cancer diagnosis, thanks to the new Intuitive Surgical Ion robotic bronchoscopy platform recently installed at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. This new technology will enhance the comprehensive lung cancer program at the newly opened Franciscan Health Cancer Center Lafayette, providing earlier detection of lung cancer. “The Ion robotic bronchoscopy platform is a great resource for our lung cancer program at Franciscan Health Cancer Center Lafayette,” said Terry Wilson, Franciscan Health Western Indiana president and CEO. “This cutting-edge procedure provides another tool to our outstanding multidisciplinary team can utilize to support our patients.” The efficiency of the tool helps lessen patient stress. The patient is able to receive the diagnosis and the stage of the cancer right away, saving time, and allowing the care team to formulate a treatment plan quicker. Performing the procedure at Franciscan Health Lafayette East are Franciscan Physician Network pulmonologists: Dr. Salim Abou Jaoude, Dr. Mazen Alakhras and Dr. Imad Khadra. “The Ion platform offers the option to reach small nodules that are in the peripheral of the lung, without having to stick a needle from outside the lung, which can increase the risk of collapsing the lung and having complications,” said Dr. Abou Jaoude. “Even small nodules, smaller than one centimeter, can be reached with ease with the Ion bronchoscope. It is very important to try to catch lung cancer early and the Ion platform provides that.” Franciscan Health Indianapolis was the first hospital in the state to introduce robotic bronchoscopy in 2019. Franciscan Health Munster and Crown Point added the technology in 2022, followed by Franciscan Health Michigan City and Olympia Fields, Illinois in 2023. Read more. https://lnkd.in/esqQK77K
